Vintage Wooden Minstrel Style Bones

These vintage bones were acquired in November, 2009 from an antiques dealer who says:
"They were owned by an elderly gentlemen in his 70s. He had them for as long as he could remember and based on how he played them he sure knew what he has doing."

The dealer said this about the provenance of the instruments:
"They were handed down to the gentlemen who received them from his father. They came from somewhere on the east coast of Boston he thinks, and his father had 'always' had them around. This puts the latest date of origin sometime in the 1920s."

The bones are black stained hardwood, probably maple. They are vintage instruments in excellent condition. I cannot say for sure, but they probably originated from a specialty supply house that served the amateur minstrel show market.
Features
  • Possibly Maple: Produces nice warm sound that listeners and musicians like.
  • Minstrel Style Design: Still popular after 150 years.
