Pick a Pair or Two From My Personal Collection.
Some were my favorites over 25 years ago. Some I hardly ever rattled and are still like new. Some are rare, no longer in production, or one of a kind. Some are not so rare. All can be yours at a bargain price.
Top Row (from L to R):
- Nautical Style Bones, 7" length (3 pictured): Pair at far left is well used, and over 30 years old.
- Cow Rib Bones, 8" length: Extra long (actually 7-3/4" & 7-7/8") & bulky natural rib bones made by Songbird Dulcimer.
- Genuine Irish Cow Rib Bones: Bought these online around 25 years ago from a music shop in Ireland. A tad too thin and narrow for my liking. They are rather scrawny, narrow, and anemic. The ribs also lack much of an arc. You might like them for playing soft weak tones. Not absolutely positive, but I think they were made by bodhan maker, Paraic McNeela.
- Vintage Ebony Bones, 7-1/2" x 1-1/8" x 5/16": Embarrassed to admit I do not recall were I got them. But I love the traditional length, slightly wide width, and slightly thin thickness - and they play really nice.
Bottom Row (from L to R):
- Aaron Plunkett Plastic Blue Bones, stout (might get sticky): From an early batch of Blue Bones. Sometimes the plastic resin gets a little sticky if they sit unused too long.
- Dem Bones Birds-Eye Maple: Narrow minstrel style bones.
- Dem Bones Cherry: Narrow minstrel style bones.
- Whamdiddle Classic Long Walnut Bones, promotional sample w/inlaid text: Long 8" bones inlaid with chrysocolla, a hard bright blue turquoise-like mineral.
- Whamdiddle Classic Long Tulipwood Bones, promotional sample w/inlaid text: Long 8" bones inlaid with chrysocolla, a hard bright blue turquoise-like mineral.
- Whamdiddle Classic Long Poplar/Maple Bones, promotional sample w/inlaid text: Long 8" bones inlaid with chrysocolla, a hard bright blue turquoise-like mineral.
