Possible burnt cork residue. One bone just very slightly twisty.

Nice pair acquired in April 2019 from a musical instrument collector living in Massachusetts.
"I've had these for so long I can't remember where I got them. I have been collecting vintage and antique guitars, banjos, violins, and mandolins for 47 years, so these were "probably" in the cases of old instruments that I acquired because these are not the types of things that I would normally buy. I do know that they were not found all together and that they came from several places at different times. I wish I could remember the specifics, but I simply can't remember the details."

Description
Heavy dark aged rosewood. Sinks in water. Black carbon-like material on surface...possibly compressed burnt cork. One bone just slightly twisty (does not impair playability). A really intriguing pair of nice playing bones. The pair was associated with the three vintage minstrel style sets listed below.
How Old Are They?
The 1897 Sears catalog sold sets of seven-inch rosewood bones and these might be one of them. I like to think my vintage ebony and rosewood bones date back earlier to the Civil War, even if it is just wishful thinking.
