I found these bones in 2004. They belonged to Chris Sharp, a blues, bluegrass, and old-time musician living in Mississippi. Here's what Chris said about them:

The bones were given to me by a fellow bones player who had received them from a friend at Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, where I understand they were removed from an old minstrel banjo case. I also understand that it is not unusual to find bones in old banjo cases. I have no way to verify the veracity of all I have explained to you, but this is how I received them. There are many people who would find such a banjo and case, ooh and aah over the banjo, and throw the bones away. I've had these bones for about ten years. I can't be certain WHAT era these bones are from, but I know that they were associated with a particular old banjo. When they were put in that case is anyone's guess. They appear to be older than any other bones I have.

The bones were found duct taped to the inside of the banjo case. You can see remnants of the adhesive on one of the bones in the photos.

Don't know for sure, but I think these might be a set of Ted Goon's black stained maple Goon Bones from the 1950s and 1960s (Ted Goon died in 2003 at the age of 92).

In any event, these vintage, well-played minstrel style musical bones produce a nice warm sound.
Features
  • Possibly Maple: Produces nice warm sound that listeners and musicians like.
  • Minstrel Style Design: Still popular after 150 years.
