Vintage Percy Danforth Pine Bones (made by Ray Schairer). From my personal collection.

These were Percy's favorite.

You can get Danforth bones in a variety of woods, but Percy preferred pine because of the soft pleasing tone the wood produced.

The thunderous clack of ebony and rosewood bones reined supreme during the Minstrel era. But Percy, as well as many other experienced players today, often shy away from those heavier weight and sharper tone woods.

Personally, I prefer medium to heavy weight bones because they provide the kinetic force I need to make them click with ease. But if you want to try a "feather-light" pair that generates a tone about as pleasingly soft as musical rhythm bones can get, then these Danforth Pine bones are for you.
Features
  • Handcrafted Pine: Like fine furniture
  • Traditional Minstrel Style Design: Still popular over 150 years
  • Protective Minwax Finish: Keeps bones like new
  • Durable Softwood: Lasts for centuries

5 of 5 Quite nice, as a beginning, but dedicated, player March 30, 2017

I got these in the mail today with some ebony minstrel bones. So far, I've been learning and practicing on the nautical style ox shin bones. These were so much easier to play at the proper tempo that I am doctoring my wrist right now, I played bones for 3 hours straight. While the ox shin and ebony bones have unique tones and a place in my collection, these hit it out of the park. Their lightness and shape aid my already practiced bone technique, and I was able to play along with bluegrass and Irish music better than I ever could with ox shin. I cannot wait to bust these out at the Irish session, the ease of playing and quieter sound will give me confidence.

A warning though, bones are still tough to play, even if they're as easy as these. I have not practiced much with my left hand yet, only having one pair until now, and these didn't enable my left hand to skip learning basic techniques.
