Vintage Die-Stamped Rosewood Bones

This intriguing pair of die-stamped and lead-weighted rosewood bones was owned by Frank Fast (1892-1963) of Indiana.

Frank was the son of Joseph E. Fast (1852-1928) and Emma (nee Miller) of Ohio. Frank and his wife Mary had three sons and three daughters. The bones were passed along to Frank's son, Frank, Jr.

The bones eventually came into the possession of Frank Jr's brother-in-law, whose surname is Quas. The last family member to own the bones was Frank Jr's nephew, Jack Quas. Jack says "All of my family are deceased now," adding, "I don't remember my uncle or my father playing them."

How Old Are They?
The fine surface resembles other vintage rosewood (and ebony) bones I have seen with a characteristic handcrafted finish that appears scraped - not sanded. The combination of that fine finish plus rich rosewood patina makes me guess the pair dates between the Civil War and 1890s.
