Exotic Tapered Ebony Bones Deliver Clear Sharp Tone

Easy to Grip, Easy to Play
The main feature about these bones is the taper. They are designed to be thin at the top and thick at the bottom. Some players find the thin top more comfortable to grip than standard-width bones. But the engineering "magic" comes from the thicker bottom segment of the bones. The thicker width adds extra weight which provides more kinetic energy at the bottom where the bones strike together, and that makes the bones easier to click. At least that is the theory.

Ebony was the wood of choice for "Mister Bones" during the minstrel era. It is one of the world's hardest woods. At 7/8" wide, these bones are rather narrow. I prefer wider bones because they are easier for my "regular" size hands to grip. And wide bones make it easier to generate a greater dynamic tonal range (especially using the two-finger "Irish" style grip pictured above). These ebony bones are also rather thin. Some players with smaller hands might consider this an advantage. However, I would prefer them more massive. But no matter what your hand size, if you enjoy the traditional American (one-finger-between-the-bones "minstrel") style of playing, I think you will be delighted with the sharp, crisp and clear tone of these narrow bones.
