Soft Tone Won't Blast Out the Band
These bones are great for players who want instruments that won't overpower their bandmates.

Varying from 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch thick, Pea Patch flat bones are somewhat similar to paint stirrers (which frankly are too thin to pack much of a wallop). So the tone is a bit anemic. And at just 1 inch in width, these bones can only achieve a rather limited dynamic tonal range.

This can be a major advantage for novice players though. After all, if the bones you're rattling stay in the background, then you don't have to worry as much about "walking" on your bandmates.

Experienced players might feel compelled to discover new and practical ways these bones can enhance a tune. But whether you're a newbie or expert, everyone likes adding exotic woods to their collection at rock bottom prices.

Still, if you want bones with a little more heft and weight - or if you need the extra power it takes to be heard above the clamor of the crowd, then try the Pea Patch Minstrel Style version instead.

Why Choose these Bones?

Pea Patch flat bones are nicely crafted "soft toned" instruments that fit comfortably in any size hand. Their relatively long length gives you extra leverage which makes them easy to play. (They work pretty good when you play them backwards too.) And you can get them in several exotic woods at low cost.

So if you want a set of easy-to-play soft-toned exotic wood instruments at a budget price, then these bones are for you.

Here's What You Get:

One pair (2 individual bones, like in the photo). That's enough to rattle the bones in one hand.

Product Specs

Ebony was the wood of choice for Mister Bones during the minstrel era. It is one of the world's hardest woods. Ebony is a dense resonant wood that holds a reputation among woodcrafters as a saw buster.

In 1897 you could buy a set of four 7" ebony bones for thirty-five cents from the Sears, Roebuck & Co. catalog. Living history performers who do Minstrel era and Civil War gigs should choose ebony minstrel-style bones for the historically accurate design. You will appreciate the sharp powerful tone that cuts through the clamor of festival crowds - and so will those curious onlookers!
